Jenna Ortega to Star in Single Female, Remake of Single White Female
Jenna Ortega will star in Single Female, a remake of the 1992 thriller Single White Female. The script is by Sarah DeLappe, and Ortega will lead alongside Taylor Russell for Sony Pictures' 3000 Pictures. Ortega and Russell are also serving as executive producers, joined by Stacey Sher and Marisa Paiva.
The original film was adapted from John Lutz's novel SFW Seeks Same and starred Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh. It follows Allison Jones, who moves in with a new roommate after splitting from her fiancé; Hedra Carlson becomes jealous and turns violent in an attempt to take Jones' fiancé, Sam.
Made on a $16 million budget, the 1992 film grossed $84 million and opened second behind Unforgiven. Ortega has been prominent across film and television, including Wednesday Season 2 with Season 3 confirmed, a collaboration with A24 and Paul Rudd on Death of a Unicorn, and a lead role in Sony's Klara and the Sun directed by Taika Waititi and expected later this year.
