Jim Carrey dismissed claims that a lookalike attended the César Awards on his behalf. His representative, Marleah Leslie, said he attended the ceremony and accepted his Honorary César Award. Gregory Caulier, the César Awards’ general delegate, also rejected impersonator theories and called Carrey’s appearance a “historic moment.” He said the visit had been planned since the summer, that Carrey worked on a French speech for months and asked about pronunciations, and that the actor arrived with his partner, daughter, grandson and a group of family and friends; his longtime publicist and filmmaker Michel Gondry were also present.

Conspiracy theories circulated online after the rare Paris appearance, with some users suggesting cloning or plastic surgery and noting a change in eye color. Makeup artist Alexis Stone posted on Instagram claiming he stood in for Carrey and shared photos of a mask and wig.
