Jim Carrey Rumored to Return as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic 4

Paramount greenlit Sonic the Hedgehog 4 before the release of the third film, and a returning cast has been building: Ben Schwartz will be back as Sonic, Kristen Bell is set to voice Amy Rose, and Sir Ben Kingsley joins the franchise. A new rumor from insider Daniel Richtman says Jim Carrey is also set to reprise his role as Dr.

Robotnik and is already on set filming scenes for the sequel. Carrey stood out in the trilogy as Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik and, most recently, also played Gerald Robotnik. In Sonic the Hedgehog 3 both Robotniks faced the Eclipse Cannon; the younger Robotnik ultimately helped redirect the beam, and both he and Keanu Reeves' Shadow appeared to sacrifice themselves during the climax.

The film's post-credits scene later confirmed Shadow survived, while viewers were not shown what became of Robotnik, leaving room for the writers to explain his fate. That ambiguity raises the question of whether any return would find him allied with Sonic or back to his old villainous ways.
