Jimmy Kimmel criticises Trump for calling Minneapolis ICE protests 'fake riots'
Jimmy Kimmel criticised former President Donald Trump after Trump reportedly described protests in Minneapolis as "fake riots" during a speech at the Detroit Economic Club this week, Kimmel said in his Tuesday night monologue.
Kimmel quoted Trump as having "attempted to convince those in attendance that the protests in Minneapolis are not real," and called the remarks "like 'The Emperor's New Clothes' in reverse." He added, "First, they want us to believe that we did not see what we all saw happen overnight. Now he wants us to believe the protests aren't real. It's like The Emperor's New Clothes in reverse; he's telling us we're the ones who are naked while they do their best to cover everything up."
The demonstrations have spread across America, the source said, demanding justice after the killing of 37-year-old mother Renee Good by an ICE officer in Minneapolis last week.
Fellow late-night host Stephen Colbert also addressed the situation, unpacking the Trump administration's deployment of thousands of federal immigration agents in Minnesota despite Minneapolis officials urging them to leave, the report said.
