Joe Cole has urged Chelsea to strengthen their goalkeeping options, identifying Manchester City’s James Trafford as a potential upgrade while Robert Sanchez’s position at Stamford Bridge remains under scrutiny. Sanchez was dropped after a run of inconsistent performances, most notably following a poor display in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.

Cole argued that Chelsea need a keeper capable of matching the standards set by title rivals and questioned whether Sanchez can reach that level quickly enough. He pointed to the likes of Allison, Gianluigi Donnarumma and David Raya as examples of the sort of goalkeeper Chelsea should be aiming for and suggested the club should act if Trafford became available.

Manager Liam Rosenior has embraced a rotation policy, resting Sanchez for the 4-1 win over Aston Villa and explaining he has been honest with the goalkeeper.
