Joe Mixon's 2026 outlook uncertain after Texans describe 'freak' medical condition
Cbssports: Joe Mixon's status with the Houston Texans is unclear entering the 2026 offseason after he missed the entire 2025 season with a foot injury, and general manager Nick Caseiro said Wednesday Mixon has not been at the team facility in some time.
Mixon missed OTAs and minicamp with what was believed to be an ankle issue and was placed on the non-football injury list on July 23, which ruled him out for the first four games of the season. Caseiro said Mixon was progressing but still needed at least another month before the team could decide on his availability; by late November the Texans had effectively closed the door on him playing in 2025.
Caseiro referred to the problem as a medical condition he had not seen before, saying he "didn't do anything off the field" and later adding, "I don't want to call it a freak thing, but it's just kind of a freak thing." Houston plans to reassess Mixon in the offseason; he earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2024 after rushing for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns and remains under contract through 2026 with a $10.5 million salary in the final year of his deal.
