Jonathan Ross named in records as agent who shot driver in Minneapolis
Independent.co reported that records obtained by the Associated Press identify the federal agent who shot and killed Renee Good in Minneapolis as Jonathan Ross, a 43-year-old Iraq War veteran who has served for nearly two decades with the Border Patrol and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
According to the records and Ross’s own testimony, he deployed to Iraq with the Indiana National Guard in 2004–2005, joined the Border Patrol in 2007 and became an ICE deportation officer in 2015. He has worked in field intelligence, fugitive operations and as a firearms, active-shooter and SWAT instructor, and testified he served as a team leader with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Ross was seriously injured on June 17 when agents say he was dragged by a suspect’s vehicle in Bloomington; prosecutors later secured a guilty verdict against that driver. Federal officials have defended the agent’s actions while declining to publicly confirm his identity, Homeland Secretary Kristi Noem referenced the June injury, and the FBI is investigating the use of deadly force in Good’s death as protesters and Minnesota authorities seek further inquiries. Attempts to reach Ross were not immediately successful.
