Josh Sargent has joined Toronto FC, ending his time at Norwich City and returning to MLS. The 26-year-old prioritized his young family in the decision and becomes one of the league’s marquee signings after a transfer that could reach $27 million. Off the field, the move brings Sargent closer to home after leaving at 18 and now returning as a parent of three.

On the field he will shoulder the responsibilities that come with being a franchise striker, and his path back into the USMNT picture may be more complicated as a result. Toronto FC have been rebuilding their spine and have taken another big swing by adding Sargent to a roster that already includes Djordje Mihailovic, Walker Zimmerman, Jose Cifuentes and Emilio Aristizabal.

The club has invested aggressively and left room for further moves, though it is still too soon to say whether that will be enough to contend in 2026.
