Jujutsu Kaisen episode 9 revisits Yuji Itadori’s Shibuya guilt
Season 3’s “Tokyo No. 1 Colony, Part 3” opens with Hiromi Higuruma unleashing his domain expansion, Deadly Sentencing, and trapping Yuji Itadori inside a courtroom-style barrier. The first round accuses Yuji of entering a casino while underage; after a guilty verdict and a demanded retrial, Higuruma’s shikigami, Judgeman, accuses him of mass murder in Shibuya on Oct.
31, 2018. Yuji admits to the crime, the Death Penalty is triggered, and Higuruma arms the Sword of Execution. Yuji’s survivor’s guilt has become central to his character. He is, at the moment, the only person who can contain the King of Curses, and his grandfather’s dying wish that he use his strength to save others pushed him toward self-sacrifice.
He feels shame over Sukuna’s massacre during Shibuya, unable to separate Sukuna’s actions from his own, a theme underscored by the season’s opening shot of Yuji staring at bloodstained fingers while Sukuna mocks him through his reflection.
