Manchester City match‑winner Erling Haaland criticised the decision to disallow Rayan Cherki’s stoppage‑time goal at Anfield and to send Dominik Szoboszlai off for a foul in the build‑up. The incident in the 99th minute has dominated discussion since the final whistle.

With Alisson upfield for a set piece, Cherki played from his own half and left Haaland racing through. Szoboszlai pulled him back, denying a goalscoring opportunity, and Haaland then pulled the Liverpool midfielder to the ground as he tried to clear the ball. The ball trickled in and City celebrated, only for VAR to rule the goal out for Haaland’s pull while red‑carding Szoboszlai for his earlier foul.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Haaland said: "I think, for me, of course the referee has to follow the rules." He added: "But this will give him [Szoboszlai] three games [ban]. I feel bad for him, because he gets three games.
