Kasper Schmeichel, the 39-year-old Celtic goalkeeper and Leicester City icon, has revealed a shoulder injury that could end his professional career. A specialist confirmed the damage on Monday, describing a diagnosis the player called a "massive body blow." The injury, which reached a turning point during a Europa League clash against Stuttgart, has kept him out of the last five matches for Celtic.

Schmeichel said he will need two operations after tearing the bicep and rotator cuff, dislocating the shoulder and tearing the labrum, and faces around 10–12 months of rehabilitation. At his age, that recovery timeline could keep him sidelined until he is nearly 41, a prospect the son of Peter Schmeichel found hard to accept.

He reflected on a career that included winning the Premier League with Leicester in 2015–16, an FA Cup five years later, spells at Nice and Anderlecht, and his move to Celtic in 2024, saying: "You don't really know how to react to this.
