Princess Kate made an unannounced visit to the Welsh Quilt Centre in Lampeter on Feb. 3, 2026, where she viewed more than 450 quilts assembled by Jen Jones.

She had heard of the collection through her father-in-law, King Charles, who is a patron and has visited regularly. At the centre she met volunteers, sat with them at a sewing table and watched them work, but did not join in because of time.

Her official Instagram noted that quilting can provide connection, purpose and belonging; the visit was intended to highlight how sewing and traditional crafts bring people together and support community wellbeing.

Jones opened the centre in 2009 to preserve traditional quilts, and the collection includes historic pieces and attracts group visits from France, Japan, Canada and the U.S. The visit was the last stop on a day showcasing Welsh weaving and manufacturers sustaining traditional skills.
