Keke Palmer Leads Colorful Crew in Boots Riley's I Love Boosters

Boots Riley returns with I Love Boosters, a crime comedy that will have its world premiere at SXSW on March 12 as part of the festival’s 40th edition. The film follows the Velvet Gang, a crew of professional shoplifters who set out to “empty out every single metro designer in the Bay Area,” primarily targeting fashion maven Christie Smith (Demi Moore).

They resell high-end fashion at a discount, a practice the film frames—per the trailer—as “it's like community service.” An image from the film underscores its bright, vintage aesthetic, showing the Velvet Gang in multi-layered, colorful outfits that include fur coats, stylish skirts, massive boots and a host of accessories.

Keke Palmer leads the ensemble, joined by Demi Moore, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Poppy Liu, Eiza González, Will Poulter, Don Cheadle, and LaKeith Stanfield; González has also teased a sci-fi element to the heist, and Stanfield reunites with Riley after playing the lead of Sorry to Bother You.
