Kelly Clarkson's Bob on The Voice Is a Hair Hack, Not a Chop

Kelly Clarkson debuted a bob silhouette in early looks for The Voice Season 29, but the shorter style is an illusion. At an intimate concert ahead of the season premiere, she explained that her hairstylist Robert braided all her hair except for the very tippy-top; leaving those shorter pieces un-braided created the bob shape without a cut.

She admitted she asked for a bob because she wanted to cut her hair, but decided against it. As a mom who wears Alo and a mom bun, she said, "I can’t be having short hair, that’s some hard sh-t to keep up with, you know what I’m saying?" Clarkson praised her stylist, noting, "But he’s so talented everybody thought that I had chopped my hair off.

But I didn’t." Clarkson often opts for low-effort changes, frequently using wigs to switch looks. For Halloween 2025 she dressed as Breathless Mahoney from Dick Tracy with a platinum wig, telling The Kelly Clarkson Show audience, "[My hair is] all just in there, wrapped up.
