An unknown dark liquid was poured onto a temporary outdoor ice rink at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts late Thursday night, prompting the cancellation of a performance by the Canadian skating troupe Le Patin Libre. The U.S. Park Police said it responded to a call for assistance just after noon on Friday, and the center’s special police reported that an individual entered the property just before midnight and damaged the ice by strewing the dark liquid across it.

An investigation is ongoing; authorities are reviewing security footage and no arrest has been made. Roma Daravi, a Kennedy Center spokeswoman, said on social media on Saturday that a container left on the ice was being tested for DNA evidence. The canceled show was part of a seven-performance run that began on Feb.

17. Le Patin Libre said the rink was repaired in time for the two shows it had scheduled for Saturday.
