Kevin Williamson to Reboot Universal Monsters for TV Series
Thirty years ago Kevin Williamson helped revive the slasher genre; now he is writing a television series for Universal that aims to bring the studio's classic monsters back to life. Williamson has described the project as "an adult Vampire Diaries" and says he paused the work to write and direct Scream 7.
He says the show is "based in the Universal monster land" and will let him "play with" figures such as Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolf Man, giving him room to explore those characters on a longer canvas. Universal built its early reputation on horror, from Lon Chaney Sr.'s The Phantom of the Opera and The Hunchback of Notre Dame to black-and-white chillers like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man and The Wolf Man, featuring players such as Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Claude Rains and Lon Chaney Jr.
