Kevin Williamson won't direct Scream 8

Kevin Williamson, who helped establish Scream’s signature meta-horror voice and has served as a writer, executive producer and most recently director, does not plan to write or direct a potential Scream 8.

Scream 7’s strong box-office showing has prompted plenty of sequel buzz, but no official greenlight has been issued. Williamson told Scream fansite Hello Sidney that he has other creative ambitions and does not expect to return for the next instalment.

He has previously been “spit-balling” ideas for a follow-up and said Neve Campbell had a “great idea” for where the story could go, but he plans to step back and allow someone else to take the reins.
