Kevin Zegers said he fought hard to earn a part on Taylor Sheridan’s new series, The Madison, calling the process “not easy.” He suggested, “I wasn’t totally right for it, but I just wouldn’t [give up]. I just knew I was supposed to be doing it,” and joked he’d even fly to Sheridan’s house “and bang on his door.” The show, which premieres March 14 on Paramount+, follows a New York City family relocating to rural Montana and stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell, Patrick J.

Adams and Matthew Fox. Zegers said he leaned on tenets of sobriety while shooting, especially “service,” which mirrors his role as a caring neighbor. “I try to live my life that way,” he said, and described becoming close to child actor Alaina Pollack, who plays Pfeiffer’s granddaughter.

Reflecting on his own start in 1997’s Air Bud at 13, he added, “100%... I’ve never met a child actor who isn’t either actively like a drug addict or in recovery,” and called it “weird” that a child must work when “there’s 250 people waiting...
