Movieweb reports that 24 star Kiefer Sutherland was arrested in Hollywood after an alleged physical altercation with a ride-share driver, the Los Angeles Police Department said. According to Variety, the LAPD responded to a call of a reported assault at 12:15 a.m. on Jan. 12, 2026, near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.

The assailant, later identified by police as Kiefer Sutherland, reportedly assaulted the driver and made threats after entering the vehicle; the victim did not need medical attention and reportedly received no injuries. Sutherland was arrested for making criminal threats in violation of California Penal Code section 422, was bailed out on a $50,000 bond later that Monday morning, and has a court date set for Feb.

2, 2026. Sutherland nor his representatives have made a comment. Sutherland has a history of prior arrests, including a 1989 DUI and three subsequent DUI arrests in 1993, 2004 and 2007; after the 2007 arrest he pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 48 days in jail. He was arrested in May 2009 after headbutting designer Jack McCollough, later apologized, and the charges were dropped.
