Pagesix reports Kim Kardashian told sister Khloé Kardashian on the podcast "Khloé in Wonder Land" Wednesday that the controversial elephant-skin Hermès Birkin photographed on the set of Hulu’s All’s Fair was a fake prop.

Kardashian said the bag’s hardware was upside down and called it "an actual full fake one," adding the gray prop was chosen because it matched her character’s outfit. She said production purchased prop bags to keep on set and that she had also brought many of her personal Birkin bags for wardrobe options. The revelation came after backlash in November, including criticism from model Ireland Baldwin on Instagram, and amid PETA commentary that Hermès made a limited series of elephant-skin Birkins in the 1980s that can fetch high resale prices.

Kardashian acknowledged she wished she had been "a little bit smarter" about the wardrobe choice and said she was upset about the message it sent. She explained she delayed addressing the controversy for about two months because she felt "overwhelmed" by criticism of All’s Fair, and said Ellen DeGeneres reached out to her privately about the matter.
