Klaebo Makes Olympic History With Six Golds
Finally, the coronation arrived. Johannes Klaebo, 29, lined up at the start of each of the six men’s cross-country events at the 2026 Olympics and won them all.
He began with the skiathon, about 12 miles in two styles, then the sprint — a three-and-a-half-minute dash over four rounds — and the individual time trial. He added two relay golds with his Norwegian teammates to reach five. On Saturday came the sixth and final event, the mass start at 31 miles.
Klaebo broke away early with two fellow Norwegians, the trio leaving the field behind. With a few miles left Emil Iversen slipped back, leaving Klaebo and Martin Nyenget; Klaebo attacked on the final climb and blasted away to take the win, his sixth gold and the 11th of his career.
He won every cross-country event at these Games. His six golds at a single Winter Games set a new record, surpassing Eric Heiden’s five in 1980. Men’s 50km Mass Start — Klaebo 2:06:44.8; Nyenget 2:06:53.7 (+8.9); Iversen 2:07:15.5 (+30.7).
