Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany defended Nicolas Jackson after the Chelsea loanee was passed over for a penalty in the 4-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach. With Harry Kane sidelined by a minor knock, Jackson started for the first time since January as part of a seven-change rotation and played a key part in the second goal before winning the penalty that led to the third.

Jackson asked to take the spot-kick but Jamal Musiala stepped up and converted. Kompany pushed back against criticism of the 24-year-old, saying Jackson had trained extremely well, had won the AFCON and had done nothing wrong, and that the dressing room remained calm despite attempts to single players out.

Musiala said the decision on the penalty taker had already been made — it was between him and Jo Kimmich — and that Jackson had asked for it. It was Musiala's first Bundesliga penalty and his first league goal since April 4, 2025. Focus now turns to the Champions League round-of-16 first leg against Atalanta.
