KPop Demon Hunters 2 likely delayed beyond 2029
KPop Demon Hunters is getting a sequel, but the long animation process means the follow-up may arrive later than first expected. The movie had been projected for 2029, four years after the original became a hit, but that timeline now looks uncertain. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures Animation president Kristine Belson offered little detail about the project and strongly suggested the planned 2029 date probably won’t hold.
When the outlet called a 2029 release “far-fetched,” Belson responded by placing her finger to her nose, signaling agreement with that assessment. Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans have been occupied with awards season, which has limited time to advance the sequel.
The first movie has been collecting trophies—including at the Academy Awards and the Grammys—and the travel and appearances have complicated the team’s schedule, a situation compared to how Baldur’s Gate 3’s post-launch awards affected its studio’s workflow.
