KPop Demon Hunters joins the Criterion Collection
KPop Demon Hunters, the animated Netflix film directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, has been added to the Criterion Collection. The film has already won the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award for Best Animated Motion Picture, and its song "Golden" took home a Grammy as the first K‑Pop track to do so.
The movie is also nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song at the upcoming Academy Awards. Criterion’s catalog has long mixed art-house and popular titles — early examples include The Blob and Michael Bay’s Armageddon — and the new edition secures a physical release that Netflix would not have issued on its own.
The disc will join a range of collector items tied to the film, including a Lego set, American Girl dolls and a Monopoly Deal board game; the girls are even in Fortnite. The film is Netflix’s most‑streamed title, a success Sony executives attribute in part to its release strategy.
