Kraken says alleged dark‑web admin panel listing is not legitimate
Beincrypto reports Kraken says an alleged dark‑web listing offering access to the exchange’s admin panel is not legitimate after an internal investigation. In a statement, Nick Percoco, Kraken’s chief security officer, said the exchange “investigated the claims thoroughly and determined that the forum post is not legitimate and appears intended to mislead other forum users,” and that investigators found no evidence of compromise; Kraken did not disclose further technical details.
According to Dark Web Informer, the listing advertised read‑only viewing of user profiles and transaction histories plus full KYC documents — IDs, selfies, proof‑of‑address and source‑of‑funds — and claimed access could last one to two months, be proxied with no IP restrictions, and include the ability to generate support tickets.
Security professionals warned that even read‑only access and ticket generation could enable phishing and targeted social‑engineering attacks. CIFER Security said attackers with read‑only admin access could impersonate staff, reference real transaction details, and identify high‑value users for SIM swap, credential‑stuffing or phishing campaigns.
