TV spin-offs of movie franchises are never guaranteed successes, but Monarch: Legacy of Monsters makes a strong case. The series expands the MonsterVerse while delivering solid performances and an effective mix of sci‑fi and conspiracy thriller elements, making it an ideal binge before Season 2 premieres.

The show weaves two timelines: a 1950s strand following a young Lee Shaw (Wyatt Russell), Billy Randa (Anders Holm) and Dr. Keiko Miura (Mari Yamamoto) that helps form Monarch, and a 2015 story, a year after 2014's Godzilla, in which Randa’s and Miura’s grandchildren confront the fallout of earlier Titan events.

Wyatt Russell and Kurt Russell both play Lee, their family resemblance and shared blunt swagger smoothing the period shifts, while Holm preserves the adventurous spirit first seen in John Goodman’s Randa. Given its smaller TV budget, Monarch shows fewer Titan battles than the films, yet it smartly shifts focus to how the world has been reshaped by those events.
