Netflix has canceled the Western series The Abandons after one season, and creator Kurt Sutter publicly criticized the streamer in an edited Instagram post, MovieWeb reported.

Netflix had pinned hopes on the show becoming a Yellowstone-esque franchise, but the series was pulled after one season. Sutter shared a graphic of headlines about the cancellation, including 'Netflix Pulls the Plug After Just One Month,' 'Gillian Anderson & Lena Heady Series Ends on Cliffhanger,' and '19.8M Views Weren’t Enough.'

Sutter conceived The Abandons but left the project with just a few weeks of shooting left; his departure reportedly occurred after Netflix requested changes upon seeing rough cuts of the pilot, MovieWeb said.

Sutter wrote in the Instagram post: 'Dear Netflix, Next time fear compels you to choose the algorithm over a creator’s vision, remember how that choice unraveled a potentially beautiful project. FYI: Shareholders hate it when they learn more than $150 million was wasted on a single show trying to fix unnecessary mistakes of leadership failures – a destructive trend for both Hollywood and Wall Street.'

MovieWeb ended its piece with 'More to come...'.
