Lamine Yamal shines but Barcelona lose 2-1 at Real Sociedad

Goal reports Lamine Yamal was again the star for Barcelona at the Anoeta, but the La Liga leaders fell 2-1 to Real Sociedad, leaving them just a point clear of Real Madrid at the top.

Real Sociedad had a goal ruled out after 30 seconds for offside and Barcelona saw several efforts overturned by VAR, including Fermin Lopez's early strike and chances for Frenkie de Jong and Yamal, before Mikel Oyarzabal put the hosts ahead on the half hour. A penalty for a clip on Yamal was also overturned after VAR found an offside in the build-up. Early in the second half Dani Olmo struck the woodwork, Robert Lewandowski saw a header pushed onto the bar, Marcus Rashford equalised in the 70th minute from a Yamal assist, and a minute later Goncalo Guedes restored Sociedad's lead following mistakes by Joan Garcia.

Garcia was blamed for the second goal and later saw a near-miss cleared off the line by Pau Cubarsi; Sociedad finished with 10 men after Carlos Soler's late red but held out for the win. In the published player ratings Yamal was given 9/10 while goalkeeper Joan Garcia was rated 4/10.
