Lamine Yamal snubs Real Madrid in guard of honour after Supercopa win
Goal reports Lamine Yamal chose to step away from Barcelona’s guard of honour as Real Madrid players lined up following Barca’s Spanish Super Cup victory over their Clasico rivals.
Barcelona prevailed 3-2 in a five-goal thriller staged in Saudi Arabia. Yamal was spotted a couple of yards behind his team-mates drinking from a bottle and briefly interacting with Real captain Dani Carvajal before collecting his medal. Real’s Kylian Mbappe, who had been brought on as a substitute while returning from injury, made little impact and was seen waving his team-mates away from their own guard of honour as Barca went up to lift the trophy.
During the match Yamal was involved in a heated exchange with Dean Huijsen after an incident involving Raul Asencio, and was seen asking his rival if he was "crazy" amid pushing and words. The incident soon passed and Barcelona completed the win; manager Hansi Flick praised the team’s performance, saying, “It’s fantastic,” and Barca are now four points clear of Madrid in La Liga. They face Real Racing Club in the Copa del Rey on Thursday, then travel to Real Sociedad before a Champions League trip to Slavia Praha.
