Lamine Yamal's wonder strike keeps Barcelona four points clear
Lamine Yamal scored a brilliant goal as Barcelona beat Athletic Club 1-0 at San Mamés, preserving a four-point lead at the top of La Liga. Athletic's organised defence kept Barca largely frustrated, but Yamal's moment of magic proved decisive. The match was disrupted early when Unai Gomez fell awkwardly about nine minutes in and had to be replaced.
The first half saw several stoppages for treatment, and Inaki Williams had a goal ruled out for offside on the stroke of half-time. Shortly before the hour, Pau Cubarsi was booked for bringing Williams down as the last man; the referee showed yellow and VAR did not recommend a dismissal.
Hansi Flick introduced Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Fermin Lopez as he chased a winner, while Pedri came on at half-time and played the pass for Yamal's finish. Yamal cut in from the right, controlled superbly and fired a shot that kissed the post on its way in to seal the win on 67 minutes.
