Leah Williamson targets 2027 World Cup to complete trophy haul
England captain Leah Williamson says she is determined to lift the 2027 World Cup to complete her collection of major trophies. Williamson was not part of the 2023 England squad which reached the World Cup final in Australia after an anterior cruciate ligament injury, and she sees the next tournament, hosted in Brazil, as a chance to finish her haul.
Internationally she has been integral to Sarina Wiegman’s side, helping England to back-to-back European Championship successes at home and in Switzerland and to the first ever Finalissima in 2023. At Arsenal she has won every domestic prize, played a key role in last season’s Champions League success and added the inaugural Women’s Champions Cup at the start of 2026, alongside one WSL title, two FA Cups and four League Cups.
On the World Cup quest Williamson was frank: “The last thing on the list is obviously a World Cup. In the career that I've had, it's the last trophy. Everybody wants it and the stage of women's football now, it's just so unpredictable.
