Lego and Nintendo reveal first Super Mario minifigure
Six years after the first Lego Super Mario sets, Nintendo and The Lego Group unveiled the first classic-style Super Mario minifigure on Tuesday, March 10 — Mario Day. The teaser shows Mario emerging from a Warp Pipe in the familiar minifigure body, though his head departs from the standard cylindrical Lego shape.
The new line is slated to debut in 2027, per the teaser. Until now, Lego's Super Mario range has mostly followed the Interactive Lego Mario toys, rendering characters like Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach in squat, blocky forms—bodies that look like two Question Blocks stacked rather than the classic Lego figure.
The companies have also collaborated on larger brick builds, including a brick-built Mario paired with the standard Mario Kart vehicle and a pixel-art Mario and Yoshi. Minifigures open up new play and build possibilities. Leaks from the Bricktap Discord server suggest the launch could include a Luigi minifigure, a BigFig Bowser, and a Yoshi minifigure with a removable shell that lets another minifig ride on its back.
