Lego debuts Star Wars Smart Play sets; preorders now available at Amazon
Lego has introduced Star Wars–themed Smart Play sets, announced at CES in Las Vegas, and the three builds are available for preorder at Amazon. The Lego Smart Play system adds interactive sounds, lights and behaviors to traditional builds using a single Smart Play brick. Mashable Tech Editor Timothy Beck Werth, who attended the Lego announcement ahead of CES, wrote: "With a single smart brick, the CES demo brought Lego creations, characters, and playsets to life.
Lego cars revved their engines, a Lego duck quacked and even snored when placed on its side, and a Lego airplane pilot exclaimed 'woah!' to being flipped upside down." The largest set, Lego Star Wars Smart Play: Throne Room Duel and A-Wing, has 962 pieces, is priced at $159.99 and includes five Lego Smart Tags; Mashable reported each Smart Brick battery life is about 45 minutes and the set comes with a charger.
Lego Star Wars Smart Play: Luke’s Red Five X-Wing is a 581-piece set priced at $89.99 and features a Smart Play block on the X‑Wing with engine sounds, lights and repair noises plus Smart Luke Skywalker and Smart Princess Leia minifigures. The most affordable is Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, a 473-piece set priced at $69.99 that includes Darth Vader, his TIE Fighter, a fuel station and a Rebel Fleet Trooper, with motion-activated engine sounds, lights, laser-shooting and refueling/repair sounds; that set is noted as designed for builders aged eight and up.
