Leo Woodall Reportedly in Talks to Play Aragorn in The Hunt for Gollum
Insider Daniel Richtman says Leo Woodall is in talks for the "main role" in The Lord of the Rings spin-off The Hunt for Gollum, a part he assumes to be Aragorn. Director Andy Serkis is set to reprise his role as Gollum.
The Hunt for Gollum is expected to follow Aragorn's quest to track down Gollum, taking place during the 17 years between Bilbo’s 111th birthday party and Frodo leaving the Shire. Much of the original cast is reported to return, with Serkis as Gollum, Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins.
Richtman also claims Anya Taylor-Joy is in talks, and speculation has suggested she could portray Arwen. The project had previously aimed to bring back Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, possibly using CGI de-aging, but that now appears off the table.
Mortensen had said, "I would only do it if I was right for the character. It would be silly to do it otherwise." Production is expected to begin later this year, and The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is set to hit theaters on Dec. 17, 2027.
