Let’s Rank The Pokémon Starters, Worst To Best

Starter Pokémon are the companions you begin each journey with, the little animals that stick with you long after you move on to the next game. They carry a lot of affection, but for the sake of argument we boiled that affection down into an ordered list.

The list was originally published in 2023, and now that the starters for Pokémon Winds and Waves are known we’ve slotted the new trio into the lineup based on what’s available so far. Will their positions change when the games finally launch in 2027? Probably.

This ranking covers only the first-stage forms of each starter—so no final-evolution showstoppers here. If you were hoping to see Charizard, he isn’t part of this list.
