Robert Lewandowski says he has been watching Harry Kane’s pursuit of his Bundesliga single-season goals record as the England captain stars for Bayern Munich. The Polish striker, now at Barcelona, set the benchmark in 2020-21 with 41 league goals in 29 appearances.

Lewandowski insisted he feels no resentment and instead took pride in his achievement. “Harry Kane is scoring always so many goals and he's playing really good and he's doing a great job,” he said. “And then I saw I did this in 29 games… if I played 34 games, I can only imagine I could even score more!

Because of him, I can be more proud of my record now!” Reflecting on the role of a striker, Lewandowski added: “The world is changing. The striker is a different position. You cannot learn to be a great striker from the academy. You have to be different. You have to be thinking different.” He also recalled Pep Guardiola telling him that he knew where to move in the box: “He told me that I know exactly where I should go.
