Liam Rosenior has flown to London to hold talks about taking over as Chelsea manager, with the Strasbourg boss due to meet the west London club on Monday.

The 41-year-old is expected to replace Enzo Maresca, who left Stamford Bridge in acrimonious circumstances earlier this week. Rosenior emerged as the favourite after Maresca’s exit, but BlueCo — the investment vehicle that owns both Chelsea and Strasbourg — sought to be sensitive to both clubs before arranging meetings.

Rosenior boarded a flight from France on Sunday after Strasbourg had faced Nice on Saturday and was accompanied to London by Strasbourg president Marc Keller and sporting director David Weir. Chelsea’s board and sporting directors are said to be big fans of Rosenior; Calum McFarlane took interim charge for Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

It remains to be seen if Rosenior will be installed in time for Chelsea’s trip to Fulham on Wednesday. BlueCo are also seeking a replacement for Rosenior at Strasbourg, with Filipe Coelho and Jean-Marc Kuentz expected to take interim charge; Gary O’Neil is understood to be a contender for that permanent job, and Minnesota United’s Eric Ramsay has been monitored.
