Lil Nas X seeks diversion in LAPD battery case after August arrest
Lil Nas X appeared in court on Thursday to seek diversion in the battery case stemming from his arrest in August. His lawyer asked the judge to delay proceedings so she could submit a motion to transfer the matter into an unspecified diversion program; it was unclear what type of program she would seek, though such requests usually result in defendants seeking treatment to avoid conviction.
The judge set a return date of April 6, when the 26-year-old, born Montero Hill, will appear back in court. He was arrested after officers responded to a call about a "nude man walking in the street" and allegedly charged at officers following a night out. Video showed him roaming in white underwear and cowboy boots and later stripping.
He allegedly punched an officer twice that evening and was charged with four felonies, including battery with injury on a police officer; he was transported to a local hospital for a possible overdose. He pleaded not guilty and posted $75,000 bail after spending a few days in jail.
