Lili Reinhart channels Regina George in Forbidden Fruits

Forbidden Fruits assembles an all-star cast led by Lili Reinhart alongside Lola Tung, Alexandra Shipp and Victoria Pedretti. The film is set entirely in a mall where Reinhart’s Apple and her clique, The Fruits, run a popular shop called Free Eden by day and practice witchcraft by night.

When Tung’s Pumpkin joins the group, her growing doubts push the coven into darker territory. The movie adapts Lily Houghton’s stage plays Of the Women Came the Beginning of Sin and Through Her We All Die, a pairing director Meredith Alloway called an ideal match given shared collaborators and interests.

Alloway, who described the film as “Mean Girls, but a slasher,” said she and Houghton drew on research into female criminals and wanted to explore women’s dynamics; she noted the mall they shot in is the same one used for the Mean Girls fountain scene. Casting was central to the film’s tone.
