Lindsey Vonn, 41, announced she would miss the World Cup Super‑G at Crans‑Montana on Saturday, Jan. 31, after injuring her left knee in a crash during the Downhill race the day before, she wrote on Instagram. Posting a video of the Jan. 30 race, Vonn wrote, "Unfortunately, I won’t be able to race today." She added, "Wishing all my teammates a great race 💪🏻 🇺🇸," and thanked supporters: "Thank you for all of the love and support I have received … Doing my best right now….

🙏🏻🤞🏻." Vonn lost control and ended up in the safety nets, where she was attended to by medical staff and appeared to be clutching her left knee. She then got up and appeared to be limping, according to CBS News, skied down to the bottom of the course and was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

Norway’s Marte Monsen and Austria’s Nina Ortlieb also crashed at roughly the same spot on the course. After a third crash, organizers canceled the race, with race director Peter Gerdol telling FIS‑ski.com that "the flat light was getting more and more challenging and safety could no longer be guaranteed." Vonn has previously suffered multiple torn ACLs and underwent a partial titanium knee replacement in 2024, a procedure she told PEOPLE earlier this month helped her return to competitive skiing.

"My body was so different," she said then. "I didn’t have any pain at all; my knee didn’t swell. I felt like I could do anything.
