Lindsey Vonn retired in 2019 at age 34 because of persistent knee issues after a long professional career, then began a comeback in 2024 with her sights set on competing at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina.

Now 41 and a member of Team USA, she has picked up two FIS Alpine Ski World Cup downhill wins this season. Days before the start of the Games she ruptured her ACL in a low-visibility crash, but at a press conference on February 3 she said she feels strong enough to compete and intends to do so.

Vonn is expected to contest the speed events at Cortina d'Ampezzo, including the women's downhill and super-G and possibly the team combined, at a venue where she has recorded many World Cup victories and has won three Olympic medals, including an Olympic downhill gold.
