Line of Duty Returns After Five Years with Robert Carlyle Joining
Since its 2012 debut the BBC series Line of Duty has built a passionate international following with sharp writing, gripping storylines and compelling characters. The show spent six seasons reshaping the police procedural into tense psychological drama centered on AC-12’s internal investigations.
Season 6 wrapped in 2021 with the disbanding of the anti-corruption unit, but the series was announced to be returning for Season 7 late last year. The new season remains in very early stages and likely won’t reach TV screens for some time. Robert Carlyle will join the cast as Detective Constable Shaun Massie, a Specialist Rifle Officer whose exact role in the investigation is being kept mysterious.
The core trio from the first six seasons—Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) and DI Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure)—are expected to return.
