Lingard warned over move to Remo: 'It's a hard slog'
Vickery said Jesse Lingard is in talks with a club called Remo, which is based in Belém in the far north of Brazil. He noted Belém is the Portuguese translation of Bethlehem and recalled a Brazilian player who said, "I am so honoured to be playing in the very place where [Jesus] Christ was born," only to be told that was not the case.
Remo are newly promoted and widely expected to go straight back down. Three rounds into the Brazilian championship they've got two draws and a defeat, and Vickery warned, "It's a hard slog that you're going there, Jesse Lingard. If you're going to go there, it's a hard slog," because you'd be battling relegation all year.
He added that the heartland of Brazilian football is in the southeast — Rio, Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte — so many away games from Remo are almost four-hour plane journeys across a vast country.
