Little But Fierce brings a kid-friendly version of D&D
DC Bradshaw first had the idea for a kids’ version of Dungeons & Dragons when his daughter was born. Six years later he launched Little But Fierce on Kickstarter on March 3, a streamlined take on 5th edition meant so “almost every player could pick up the book and read it for themselves” without the language being babyish.
Bradshaw drew on a decade spent teaching drama and math and worked with other designers, including Hatchling Games and Steph Campbell of TTRPGkids. He released a short PDF version in 2022, and the current Kickstarter will fund expanded options for characters and game masters and let him fill the book with art.
The game trims and reshapes familiar D&D elements: Intelligence and Wisdom become Smarts, Sorcerer and Wizard fuse into Mage, the math avoids negative numbers and ability sheets show modifiers rather than raw scores. Creature choices run from giant animals and dragons to what Bradshaw calls the Lost instead of undead, and he removed Warlocks and added nonlethal options so players don’t have to hurt anyone.
