Liverpool rout Galatasaray as Szoboszlai excels and Salah redeems himself
Liverpool cruised into the Champions League quarter-finals with a 4-0 win over Galatasaray at Anfield, overturning last week’s 1-0 defeat in Turkey. Dominik Szoboszlai produced another influential display, while Mohamed Salah played a starring role despite an early penalty miss.
The Reds opened the scoring on 25 minutes when Alexis Mac Allister found Szoboszlai on the edge of the box from a corner and the Hungary midfielder smashed a low shot across goal. Liverpool dominated the first half but squandered chances: Salah and Florian Wirtz missed opportunities, Mac Allister hit the crossbar, and Salah’s penalty just before half-time was comfortably saved by Ugurcan Cakir.
After the break Salah set up Hugo Ekitike to make it 2-1 on aggregate following good work from Szoboszlai and Mac Allister. Moments later Cakir could only parry a Salah effort and Ryan Gravenberch turned the rebound in. On the hour Salah cut inside and curled home to net the 50th Champions League goal of his career, before leaving after requesting a substitution.
