Lord and Miller Tease Andy Weir 'Artemis' After Project Hail Mary
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the directing duo behind the film adaptation of Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary, say they may not be finished working in Weir's world. Best known for comedies and animation like 21 Jump Street and The LEGO Movie, they have also been developing a screen version of Weir's Artemis for several years.
During a conversation with THR, Lord mentioned “a backlog of like seven or eight things that we want to do.” Miller added that “there is an Artemis script, it's delightful,” and that the main technical hurdle—how to stage one-sixth gravity for a story set on the moon—might finally be solved.
Artemis follows a smuggler caught in a corporate conspiracy on the moon, a project Lord and Miller have been trying to bring to screen. If it moves forward, it could become a third entry in an unofficial Andy Weir sci-fi sequence alongside Project Hail Mary and Ridley Scott’s adaptation of The Martian, which won Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture and Best Performance by an Actor for Matt Damon.
