I’ve been excited about Esoteric Ebb, Christoffer Bodegård’s isometric Baldur’s Gate 3–meets–Disco Elysium–style RPG, for a very, very long time. It caught my eye sometime in 2023, and I’ve made a point of playing every new iteration of its demo that has dropped since then.

Bodegård announced on February 25 that Esoteric Ebb would be dropping on March 3, which meant it lands two days before Slay the Spire 2 and shortly after I’d installed Resident Evil Requiem. During character creation I dumped everything into strength and charisma, then shaved points off constitution to boost the stats I cared about.

As I finalised my stats a message from Bodegård appeared: "It’s been a journey to put this together. I hope you have a good time… and make sure to save often. You literally have NO health." I figured a -2 on all constitution-related rolls wouldn’t stop me. I’m currently on Esoteric Ebb’s third in-game day, and my playthrough has been an absolute disaster.
