Lucifer Remains the Ideal Six-Season Binge on Streaming
Lucifer premiered on Fox in 2016 and, after Fox ended the series following its third season, an intense fan campaign persuaded Netflix to pick up the show for its final three seasons. The series spent 2016–2021 telling an original story with an episodic format, and many viewers still consider it the best DC binge-watch outside the usual CW lineup.
The TV version adapts Neil Gaiman’s Sandman-era take on the character and draws on Mike Carey’s 2000–2006 comic run. Rather than following a single comic arc, the writers placed the Devil in a Los Angeles police procedural, grounding a fantastical premise in a familiar genre setup.
Tom Ellis brought a playful charm to the title role, while Lauren German’s Chloe Decker served as the show’s viewpoint character and emotional anchor. Across six seasons the series explored unexpected storylines—curing Cain’s immortality, family and father issues, and Lucifer’s fraught relationship with Hell.
