Lucy Bronze 'mind-blown' after 145th England cap, prioritises trophies
Lucy Bronze marked her 145th England appearance as the Lionesses beat Iceland 2-0, moving into third on the all-time appearance list behind Fara Williams and Jill Scott. The 34-year-old full-back produced a vintage display at the City Ground, scoring a headed goal, hitting the post with another effort and providing the assist for Georgia Stanway to seal the win.
Bronze said she never imagined reaching such numbers, reflecting on debuting in 2013 and surpassing people she admired. "I could never have imagined even getting to 100 caps. Let alone to be surpassing someone like Karen Carney... To even be in and around them, it’s just mind-blowing for me," she said.
When asked about chasing Scott’s record of 161 caps, Bronze laughed the idea off and stressed her focus is different. "No, that’s never been my intention. It’s not been to just chase caps. I just want to win things for England. The goal now is to go to the World Cup and do our best to try and win it," she said, pointing to club and international silverware as her motivation.
