Nintendo and The Lego Group announced Tuesday, March 10 (aka "Mario Day") that Luigi will star in a new Lego Super Mario Kart set: Luigi and his Mach 8 kart. The release follows last year’s Mario kart set and brings a new, larger model to the lineup. The 2,234-piece set includes a buildable Luigi figure with a posable head, arms and hands, plus a stand for "dynamic, race-ready angles." The steering wheel turns the front wheels, and turning the back wheels will spin the flame exhaust, enabling what Lego describes as "playful movement." The set does not appear to include an option to give Luigi his iconic Death Stare from Mario Kart 8.

Priced at $179.99 (£159.99 / €179.99), the Luigi and Mach 8 kit is $10 more than Mario’s set, which was composed of 1,972 pieces. Fully built, the model measures over 10 inches high, 16 inches long and 9 inches wide. It is available for pre-order now and will ship on April 1, the same day The Super Mario Galaxy Movie opens in theaters.
